Living Arrows | In The Swing Of Things

Girl swinging on a swing by Katrina Over 30s UK blogger talking about parenting, autism, mental health, books and coeliac disease for What The Redhead Said Living Arrows UK Parenting Blog Link Up Inspired by Khalil Gibran Quote

'You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth' Khalil Gibran.

Why does no one ever mention how emotional it is when your child uses a 'big girl swing' for the first time? I watched Iris sitting on the swing, moving it herself and I thought 'where did my baby go?'. I read a blog post earlier in the week about how as parents, we don't know when 'the last time' is. I can't remember the last bottle I gave her or the last nappy I changed and now here I am not knowing that her previous time in the baby swing may have been her last.

I never understood 'they grow so fast' until now. She's singing the alphabet, telling me stories and starting to write her name. I keep thinking to myself 'she's only 3!' how is she capable of all these things! She amazes me everyday, I go to help her and I'm met with a stern 'No, I can do it myself' and do you know what, she can. She's changed so much in the last year, it makes me sad that family haven't been able to watch these changes. I can't wait until we can all be together again and she can show off her new skills- I think they will be amazed!

  1. Oh gosh I remember when our little lady no longer fit in the toddler seat on a swing and was ready to move to a 'big girl swing' and yet nobody else was there to feel my emotion... it is a big step! Such a beautiful photo too.

  2. Awww bless her! It's so true that you never know when the last time will be! My two go on the big swings but they can't actually move them by themselves yet, I'm looking forward to the days when I don't have to push them as it's one of my least favourite things haha!! Especially as they're so heavy now!

    1. She doesn't move much but all hell breaks loose if you try to help her! She's definitely in an independent phase x

  3. Oh gosh I empathise with this so much. One minute you are pushing your child on a swing and the next minute you are taking her child to play on the baby swings! It goes in a flash, doesnt it?

  5. It does go so quickly and that’s so true you never know when it’s the last time. Harry’s not worked out how to move the big swings yet so holding onto that at the moment

Thank you for supporting me on my journey to raise awareness about mothers on the autistic spectrum. We do exist, we just need people to know we do!
