Living Arrows | Visiting Anderby Creek

We did it. We visited the beach. I said I wouldn't but as time goes on i'm starting to realise that my safety is in my hands and if I social distance, use effective hygiene procedures and avoid places that are busy then there's no reason we can't enjoy some of the activities we used to do before. We'd already tried Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Thoresby Park and felt quite safe so a trip to my parents caravan didn't seem so extreme anymore.

Daddy booked Friday off work so we headed to my parents caravan for a couple of nights. We set off Thursday afternoon which was a BIG mistake as Iris fell asleep in the car and woke around 5pm. She doesn't nap anymore so travelling at that time was always going to be risky, combine that with the excitement of her first time 'camping' and she didn't fall asleep until 10.30pm- the latest night she's ever had!

The caravan is a small 2 bed touring caravan so Iris and Daddy slept in one bed, my parents in the other and I slept on an air bed in the awning and to be honest I absolutely loved it! Nothing made me happier than reading my book alone and falling asleep in the fresh air but the best part was waking up to a hot cuppa made by my mum. There's just something so relaxing about breakfast outside with family.

My Nan and Grandad drove up to visit us on the Friday and we all headed to Anderby Creek for a picnic. We wanted to avoid tourist hot spots and this secluded beach was only around 20 minutes from the caravan site. My nan is wheelchair bound and we were so happy to discover that Anderby Creek has ramp access. It also has toilets! Getting the wheelchair over the sand was particularly difficult and so many people apologised and said how much they would love to help but couldn't due to the coronavirus. I hadn't considered that in certain situations, coronavirus had robbed us of our ability to help others.

We ended the day with Pizza Hut and my first ever gluten free pizza! It was a wonderful break away and we all came back refreshed and ready to face the week ahead.

  1. I cannot wait to go to the beach! And I am totally with you. Our safety is in our hands and we can only keep ourselves safe and leave everyone else to what they're doing x

  4. Sounds like a lovely family break and well deserved. Can not beat the beach, I hadn't thought about the impact the virus has had on helping strangers either.

Thank you for supporting me on my journey to raise awareness about mothers on the autistic spectrum. We do exist, we just need people to know we do!
