Accommodation | Tythe Lodge, Lincolnshire

Tythe Lodge is a wooden holiday lodge situated in the tiny hamlet of Howell. It's situated in the grounds of the owner's home. The owner's are on hand to help in emergencies (like when you forget ketchup for nuggets on the first day!) but the location of the property in relation to the owner's home  makes it feel exclusive and private. A lot of love and thought has gone into this holiday accommodation and it really shows.

The accommodation consists of two bedrooms, both with King size beds, though they can be arranged as twins if required. One bedroom has an en suite shower room. There is also a family bathroom with a bath and shower above so lots of space for the whole family to wash faces and clean teeth. I really like that they've included a bath and two toilets as holidaying with youngsters is always an adventure. It's inevitable that a child will need the loo when it's occupied! In our experience holiday accommodation rarely includes a bath making life difficult when you have a 3 year old that's afraid of showers. Well done to the owners for providing different bathing options. Also an ample amount of good quality towels are provided. The bedroom and bathroom arrangements are perfectly suited to family living and although we didn't need to use a travel cot there is ample space in the second bedroom to put one up. The bedding feels clean and crisp and the mattress, duvets and pillows are comfortable. We all slept exceptionally well.

The main living area runs the full length of the lodge and is an open plan kitchen with ample cupboard space, every utensil you could need and an abundance of crockery. The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped-it even comes with a slow cooker and kitchen items that are often overlooked such as batteries, cling film and foil and a full tea set. The addition of local cheese, plum bread and fresh milk was very much appreciated. The kitchen includes a dishwasher and tablets for that true holiday feeling of not having to wash the pots. I love that you get a full size fridge freezer. We stayed here for a week and managed to get a full food shop packed away comfortably. It's the little things like this that are so important when it comes to a family orientated self catering holiday. There is also plenty of empty cupboard space to store your dry goods, something I find really pleasing as I hate having to store items on the kitchen sides. Overall the kitchen area is well organised and a joy to cook in. Just along from the kitchen and in the centre of the living space is the dining table. It seats six and is solid and sturdy, no annoying wobbly legs in sight!

The living room area is at the opposite end of the kitchen and consists of two brown leather sofas with comfortable cushions, a large leather beanbag and a small leather footstool. Iris immediately commandeered the beanbag. There is ample seating that is comfortable and suited to being wiped clean. There is a rug that adds a cosiness to the area and a side table with coasters for putting down drinks- it's amazing how many holiday places don't think of things like coasters! There is an ottoman in the living area that can be used as seating but lifts up to house some family friendly toys and games. The television is well sized for the room and has plenty of channels plus a DVD player and access to Netflix. There are plenty of DVDs provided that are suited to all age groups and caters to all genres. The lodge also has Wi-fi.  The focal point of the living room is the log burner that is set up for you on arrival. There are ample supplies to get you going plus information in the welcome guide on where to buy more wood and kindling if you need it.

As the structure is entirely made of wood I did think it might be like sleeping a shed but it's absolutely not. It's so cosy and welcoming. There has been a lot of thought into the design and I love that all the soft furnishings have the same dragonfly pattern. It really brings the space together and makes it feel homely. In terms of heating, there is the log burner and there are also electronic heaters/air-conditioning units in each room that are easy to use. We found during our stay (in a wet, thunder stormy May) that we didn't really need the electric heating and only used the log burner on a few occasions throughout the week. In general the ambient temperature of the building was comfortable for us, though I imagine in winter you would need the log burner and in very hot weather the air conditioning would be very useful.

In terms of cleanliness this is the first place I've been that I haven't felt the need to clean before I can settle. I mean, I still wiped handles, switches and remotes because I'm crazy but I didn't need to as everywhere was spotless and it smelt amazing. The bedding smelt fresh, the towels were plump and even the log burner was spotless. Cleaning supplies were available in the utility room along with a vacuum and washing machine, all things that are essential for a week long family getaway.

The outside area is very secure, the accommodation has it's own fenced off patio area along the front with gated access. This is great for families. It also has a clothes airer, fire pit and patio furniture. Along the side of the lodge, tucked into the corner is a very private hot tub. It has a gazebo over the top so you can use it even if it's raining and the owner's have even put some Perspex in the gazebo so you can still see the stars. The outside area is lit with fairy lights and is very romantic (if you don't take your three year old!). Robes are provided and there are even robe hooks outside. Outside the gated area is a lawn with play equipment including swing, slide, goal posts and sunken trampoline. You are free to use this area but as it falls outside the holiday accommodation perimeter the owners would not be liable for any injury caused. I think this is more than fair.

In terms of location, Tythe Lodge is situated in the countryside close to Sleaford. It is next to a working farm so you can expect some farm noise, personally I loved listening
to the 'baahing' of the sheep in a morning. It reminded me that I'm away from all the hustle and bustle. However there is a road that runs close to the lodge that some people seem to speed round, that noise was more disturbing than the farm but it was occasional and not persistent. On that note though do be careful when letting your children outside, ensure they don't leave the premises as there is very little pavement immediately outside.

The lodge is so well equipped that you could easily spend your time relaxing in the lodge but if you do fancy a day out then I recommend Tattershall Farm Park, it's around 20 minutes away and is a great value day out. You are also around 50 minutes journey time to Skegness if you fancy a traditional day at the seaside or if you fancy some culture and shopping then the historic town of Newark, and the city of Lincoln are around 40 minutes away. It may seem that the lodge is in the middle of nowhere but there is actually plenty to do within an hours drive. Another of the added extras thought of by the owners is the welcome guide that includes information on days out as well as information on local restaurants and takeaways.

We paid £605 for a 7 night term time break at Tythe Lodge and it was worth every penny. We left here feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. We were desperate for a break and we couldn't have picked a better place. It's clear from the effort the owner's put in that this place is loved beyond just being a holiday let. They truly care about their guests enjoyment and that's why this place shines brighter than the rest. The only slight downside for us is that they don't allow dogs. I'm sure Ian would have loved it. We booked our break via Sykes Cottages but in future we would book direct with the Lodge, which you can do via their website

We had a fabulous stay at Tythe Lodge and we've already been looking at dates for when we can go back!

Thank you for supporting me on my journey to raise awareness about mothers on the autistic spectrum. We do exist, we just need people to know we do!
